WHAT IS DISSECTING CELLULITIS?
Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DSC) is a rare, chronic form of scarring hair loss that predominantly affects Black and Hispanic men between the ages of 20 and 40.
Affected people will notice pustules which are often painful and soft, boggy nodules of the scalp, which drain pus and sometimes blood. Over time, these areas lead to permanent hair loss.
In some cases, individuals with DSC also develop boil-like lesions in the armpits or groin, a condition known as hidradenitis suppurativa, and some may experience severe, acne-like breakouts on other parts of the body.
HOW IS DISSECTING CELLULITIS DIAGOSED?
In most cases, dissecting cellulitis of the scalp can be diagnosed through a careful visual examination by an experienced dermatologist or trichologist.
